Step 1: Act Quickly

Time is of the essence when dealing with any type of stain, but this is especially true when it comes to those involving soy sauce. As soon as the stain hits the fabric, do your best to immediately blot away as much of the liquid as possible using a clean and absorbent cloth, paper towel, or sponge.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain

Once you’ve removed as much excess liquid as possible, fill a spray bottle with cold water and spritz the affected area until it’s damp. Then apply a laundry pre-treatment stain remover directly to the stain and work it into the fabric with a toothbrush. If you don’t have a pre-treatment on hand, consider combining one part dishwashing liquid with four parts water, then applying it the same way.

Step 3: Wash in Cold Water

When you’re ready to start washing away stain, set your washing machine to lowest temperature - preferably cold - and select a gentle cycle. Add some laundry detergent and let the fabric item soak for at least 15 minutes before beginning the wash.

Step 4: Air-Dry the Fabric Item

Once the cycle is complete, take the fabric item out of the washer and lay it flat so that it can air-dry. Do not place it in the dryer - heat can actually set stain, making it impossible to remove.
