Removing the Stain

  1. Soak a sponge or a cloth in hot, soapy water.
  2. Rub stained area with the soapy sponge or cloth.
  3. Rinse the cutting board with cool water.
  4. If stain still remains, make a paste from baking soda and water and rub it onto the stained area.
  5. Let the paste sit for 5-10 minutes, then rinse with cool water.
  6. If the stain persists, try using a paste made from cream of tartar, salt, and lemon juice. Rub the paste onto the stain and leave it for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with cool water.
  7. If the stain still remains, try using a solution of vinegar and baking soda. Mix together equal parts white vinegar and baking soda until you have a paste. Rub the paste onto stain and let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing off.

Finishing Touches

  1. Once the stain is gone, make sure to properly sanitize the cutting board. Use a solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach mixed into 1 gallon of hot water.
  2. Pour the solution over your cutting board and let it sit for a few minutes. Rinse with cool water afterwards.
  3. Finally, make sure to dry your cutting board with a clean cloth or paper towel.
