Make Easy Work of Removing Soy Sauce Stains from Cotton Piqué
Cotton piqué is a fabric with a raised, ribbed texture that is commonly used for polo shirts, shorts, and other items of clothing. Unfortunately, due to its texture, cotton piqué is prone to easily absorb liquids. So, when soy sauce spills on it, stain can become very hard to remove.

How to Remove Soy Sauce Stains from Cotton Piqué
- As soon as the spill happens, blot the area with a clean white cloth or paper towel to remove as much soy sauce as possible.
- If the stain is still visible, mix a solution of half-water, half-vinegar in a bowl.
- Soak a cloth in the solution and rub it over the stained area until the soy sauce has disappeared.
- Once the stain is gone, soak up the excess solution with a separate cloth and let the garment air dry.
- If the stain persists after this, make a paste using baking soda and water.
- Apply the paste onto soy sauce stain and use a toothbrush to scrub the paste in.
- Once the stain fades, rinse the garment with cold water and then let it air dry.
Tips for Preventing Soy Sauce Stains on Cotton Piqué
- Be sure to check clothing for soy sauce spills before washing, so that the stain can be treated quickly and completely.
- Never use hot water or a hot dryer on soy sauce stains, as hot temperatures can make them even harder to remove.
- If you have any clothing items made of cotton piqué, avoid wearing them when eating dishes that contain soy sauce.
- If you do need to eat soy sauce when wearing a cotton piqué garment, try to use a napkin or a bib to minimize chances of spilling any of the sauce on the fabric.
