Gather Materials & Tools

  • Small bowl of cool water
  • Mild detergent or baby shampoo
  • Clean cloth or sponge
  • White vinegar
  • Protective gloves
  • Lint-free cloth or paper towels
  • Powder laundry detergent

Step 1: Blot the Stain

Start by using a clean cloth or paper towel to blot up as much of soy sauce as possible. Don’t scrub the fabric, just lightly press the cloth on the stain.

Step 2: Soak with a Solution

Mix together a small bowl of cool water with a few drops of mild detergent or baby shampoo. Dip a clean cloth or sponge in solution, then gently pat the stained area until it is saturated. Leave fabric soaked for about 10 minutes.

Step 3: Rinse with Vinegar

Mix two parts white vinegar with one part water in a small bowl. Put on protective gloves and lightly rub this solution onto stained area. Rinse out vinegar with a clean cloth soaked in cold water.

Step 4: Launder the Garment

After stain is gone, lay the garment flat on a sheet of paper towel and let it air dry. Once dry, launder the item according to the care label instructions, using a powdered laundry detergent and the warmest water setting that’s safe for the fabric.
