Step 1: Blot the Stain

As soon as you notice the stain, start by blotting it gently with a cloth or paper towels. Don’t rub or scrub the material, as this could spread the stain or even weaken the fabric.

Step 2: Soak in Cold Water

Mix together one part cold water and one part detergent-free soap. Soak the stained area for at least 15 minutes. Check to make sure that the stain has not spread during this time.

Step 3: Wash in a Washing Machine

Carefully remove cargo pants from the cold water and soap mixture and place them into a washing machine on gentle cycle. Make sure to use cold water and wash alone (so stain doesn’t spread to other clothes).

Step 4: Hand Wash After Washing

To remove any remaining traces of stain, hand wash cargo pants by soaking them in slightly warm water and detergent-free soap. Once you’re done, rinse with cold water, blot with a cloth, and let them air dry.
