Steps for Cleaning Soy Sauce Stains from a Blazer

  1. As soon as possible after noticing the stain, use cold water to rinse the spot from the back side of the blazer.
  2. Blot the stain with a damp cloth or paper towel – don’t rub it as this could cause the stain to spread.
  3. If the stain has already begun to set in, combine mild dish soap with warm water to create suds and then sponge affected area gently with the suds.
  4. Using a clean cloth (or paper towel), rinse stain with fresh tap water and let the blazer dry completely before applying any other cleaning products.
  5. If the stain is still visible, mix white vinegar and cool water together in a spray bottle and spritz the area lightly. Then, blot the stain with a dry cloth and let it air dry.
  6. For really stubborn stains, try using a mixture of equal parts hydrogen peroxide and cold water – just make sure to test the solution in an inconspicuous area first to make sure it won’t damage the fabric.
  7. Once the area is dry, apply a stain remover specific for soy sauce stains and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse the area with cold water afterwards and repeat until the stain is gone.

Tips for Preventing Soy Sauce Stains on a Blazer

  • Avoid wearing light-colored blazers when eating food that contains soy sauce.
  • If you do wear a lighter blazer, consider wearing a bib or napkin around your neck to protect the fabric from getting stained.
  • If you spill soy sauce on your blazer by accident, act quickly and take the proper steps outlined above.
