Here’s how to tackle a shoe polish stain on wool:

  1. Mix a solution of warm water and liquid dish soap. The mix should be about one part liquid dish soap to four parts water.
  2. Use a clean cloth to dab the soapy water onto the shoe polish stain.
  3. Rinse the area with warm water. Repeat steps if the stain is still visible.

Once you’ve finished removing the stain, it’s a good idea to take the wool item to the dry cleaner for a professional cleaning.

If the stain persists, it’s also possible to try using white vinegar. Simply mix equal parts of white vinegar and water and rub the mixture into the stain. Leave it for a few minutes before rinsing clean.
