The first step in removing shoe polish from a tuxedo is to scrape away any excess polish with the edge of a dull knife. Take care to avoid damaging the fabric.
Mix together a solution of warm water and liquid laundry detergent. Apply the solution to the stain and allow it to sit for 15 minutes before blotting it up with a dry cloth.
Create a solution of warm water and liquid detergent in your sink. Soak the stained area in the mixture for 30 minutes, then rinse off the soap. If stain persists, repeat step 2 and then wash again.
If the stain is still present after washing, pour some rubbing alcohol onto a clean rag and use it to gently rub at the stain. Rinse the tuxedo off once you’ve finished, and then air dry.
If stain is still present after repeating steps 2-4, you may need to take your tuxedo to a professional cleaner for further treatment. It is possible to remove shoe polish stains from a tuxedo, but the process does take some effort and patience.
