Step 1: Treat Stain Immediately

The quicker you act, better chances you have of successful stain removal. As soon as possible, dab or scrape off any excess shoe polish with a soft cloth. If baking soda is available, sprinkle it on the stain and allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes before brushing it away.

Step 2: Use a Detergent Solution

Mix one teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent with one cup of warm water. Moisten a clean white cloth with this solution and dab at the stained area until the dirt is removed. Rinse the cloth in warm water after each dab.

Step 3: Apply rubbing alcohol

If a detergent solution isn't enough, apply rubbing alcohol directly to the stain. Allow the fabric to dry completely before proceeding.

Step 4: Wash the Tunic

Wash tunic by itself on the gentle cycle using cold water. Do not add any bleach, fabric softener or other laundry products. When wash is finished, hang garment up to air dry.

Step 5: Take It to the Dry Cleaner

If stain is still present after treating and washing the tunic at home, take it to the dry cleaner. A professional cleaner may be able to remove the stain without harming the fabric.
