If you’ve recently been left with shoe polish stains on your T-shirt, it can be tricky to figure out the best method of removing them. Depending on the type of fabric and the size of the stain, the process will vary. Before you proceed with any cleaning method, make sure to check the care label on your T-shirt for specific instructions.

If the shoe polish is still wet, try to remove as much as possible by blotting the area with a clean rag or paper towel. Don't rub, as this may push the stain further into the fabric. If the stain has dried, scrape off any excess polish with a dull knife.

Next, you will need to pre-treat the stain. There are special stain removers available that you can use for this purpose, but if you don't have any, make a paste using a teaspoon of dish soap, a teaspoon of white vinegar, and a teaspoon of baking soda. Rub the paste onto the stain, then allow it to sit for 5 to 10 minutes before laundering as usual. For tougher stains, you can place the garment in cold water with some detergent right away and soak it for at least 30 minutes.

Once the garment is laundered, inspect the stain to make sure it's gone. If it's not, repeat the process until it is. Once you've removed the stain, hang up the garment to air dry and avoid using a dryer, as this may set the stain and make it harder to remove.
