It can be a daunting task to try and clean shoe polish stains off of traditional dress. Whether stain was caused by an accidental drop or from some messier application process, it is understandable to want to clean it off quickly. Luckily, with a few simple steps you can remove any shoe polish stains from your traditional dress.

Things You Will Need

  • Dish soap
  • Warm Water
  • Cotton rags
  • Soft brush

Steps to Follow

  1. Mix a small amount of dish soap into a bowl of warm water. You should use enough soap to create a lather and suds when mixed together.
  2. Soak a cotton rag into the soapy mixture. Make sure the rag is damp and wring out any excess liquid before moving forward.
  3. Gently rub the stained area with damp rag. Rubbing in a circular motion is more effective than scrubbing too harshly.
  4. Once satisfied with progress made, rinse the area with cold water.
  5. Air-dry the dress completely, then go over the area again with a soft brush. This will help bring the shine back to the fabric.

Tips and Precautions

  • Be gentle and patient when cleaning to avoid damaging delicate fabrics.
  • Always read care label on the fabric before attempting to clean it.
  • If the stain persists, contact a professional dry cleaner for assistance.
