Method 1: Use Wipes or a Dry Cloth

If you catch the stain before it has a chance to dry, begin by blotting the affected area with either a pre-moistened cleaning wipe, or a dry cloth. Act swiftly and gently, using back and forth motions. Do not rub or scrub the tie – you may damage material.

Method 2: Use Soap and Water

If shoe polish stain has already dried, create a mixture of lukewarm water and a bit of mild dish soap. Using a sponge, lightly dab the stained area with the mixture. Once you have scrubbed the area, rinse it out with cold water. Repeat this process until the stain is gone.

Method 3: Use Alcohol

If the shoe polish stain still lingers, try setting aside soap and water and reaching for some rubbing alcohol. Gently apply some of alcohol to stain using a cotton ball or pad. Be sure to use a light hand, as the material of the tie may be too delicate for heavy scrubbing.

Once any remaining traces of the shoe polish have been removed, press a clean towel against the tie to absorb as much of the alcohol as possible. If your tie needs another round of cleaning, repeat the process until stain is gone.

Method 4: Have It Professionally Cleaned

If you’re unable to remove the shoe polish stain on your own, you may need to contact a professional dry cleaner. These individuals have extensive knowledge about fabrics and can help restore your tie to its original state. Remember, be sure to mention that there is a shoe polish stain, as certain cleaning techniques must be employed in order for the tie to come out in best condition.
