Tencel is a versatile fabric made from wood cellulose that’s both breathable and sustainable. It’s great for everyday wear, but it can be particularly tricky to clean when shoe polish stains get on it. The trick is to act quickly and use the right methods and ingredients.

Step 1: Remove Excess Shoe Polish

Before you start cleaning the stain, use a soft cloth to remove any excess shoe polish from the fabric. This will prevent the stain from spreading and will make it easier to clean rest of fabric.

Step 2: Make a Stain Remover Solution

To effectively remove shoe polish stains from tencel, you’ll need to make a cleaning solution. To do this, mix one part white vinegar and two parts cold water. Then pour this solution into a spray bottle and give it a good shake.

Step 3: Spray the Stain

Once your cleaning solution is ready, it’s time to tackle the stain. Start by spraying the stain liberally with your cleaning solution until it is completely saturated. Then let it sit for five minutes.

Step 4: Blot the Stain

After five minutes have passed, take a clean microfibre cloth and start blotting the stain with it. Don’t rub or scrub the stain, as that could cause it to spread even further or set in deeper. Instead, gently press down on it and move around the stained area until the shoe polish disappears.

Step 5: Launder as Usual

Once the shoe polish stain has been removed, put the garment in the washing machine and launder it as usual. Check garment before you put it in dryer to make sure stain is completely gone.
