Removing shoe polish stains can be tricky, but fortunately, you don’t need any special chemicals or expensive tools to do the job. All you need is a few common household products and some patience.

What You’ll Need

  • Dish soap
  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Clean cotton cloth
  • Old toothbrush

Step-By-Step Instructions:

  1. Start by scraping off as much of the shoe polish as you can using an old toothbrush.
  2. Mix equal parts dish soap and baking soda to create a paste.
  3. Using a clean cloth, apply paste directly onto the stained area.
  4. Gently scrub in a circular motion to work paste into the fabric.
  5. Rinse the stained area with warm water to remove paste and any residue.
  6. Create a solution of one part white vinegar and five parts water.
  7. Soak the stained area in the solution for 30 minutes.
  8. Rinse area again with warm water.
  9. Wash the pants in cold water on the delicate cycle and allow it to air dry.

If the stain still persists, you may want to try treating it with a laundry stain remover. Follow the directions on product label and repeat instructions from above.

With a few easy steps, your sweatpants will be looking like new in no time.
