How to Easily Remove Shoe Polish Stains from Spandex

Shoe polish stains on spandex can be a tricky problem, but you don't have to throw out your favorite workout clothes just yet. With the right ingredients and some patience, you can easily get those pesky shoe polish stains out of your spandex leggings or sports bra.

What You'll Need

  • Dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda

Instructions

  1. Mix together equal parts dish soap and white vinegar in a container.
  2. Using a clean cloth, apply directly onto the stain, using circular motions.
  3. Allow the mixture to sit for about 15 minutes.
  4. Rinse the garment with cold water to rid of the residue.
  5. If the stain is still present, mix together equal parts baking soda and white vinegar and apply it to stained area with a sponge or cloth.
  6. Allow mixture to sit for another 15 minutes.
  7. Rinse garment again with cold water to rinse away the residue.
  8. Air-dry the garment.
  9. Repeat the process until the stain is removed.

Tips

  • Be sure to use cold water only as hot water will set the stain.
  • When doing laundry, pre-treat stains with a stain remover prior to washing.
  • Clean the stained area as soon as you notice it.
  • Spot test any cleaning solution before using it on the entire garment.
