Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Apply a small amount of liquid dish soap to the area with a damp cloth. Work the soap into the stain and allow it to sit for five minutes.
  2. Rinse away the soap with cold water and then brush the stain with a soft-bristled brush.
  3. Soak affected area in a solution of warm water and laundry detergent for 30 minutes.
  4. Rinse with cold water and wash the pants as usual.
  5. If the stain remains, mix 1 tablespoon of liquid chlorine bleach in 1 quart of cold water and immerse the stained area until the stain starts to fade. Make sure to rinse away all the bleach after.
  6. Repeat this process until the stain is gone.

Precautions

When working with any type of cleaner or bleach, use a mask and glasses for protection. Do not use bleach on non-colorfast fabrics, as it can cause serious discoloration. Be sure to read care instructions before cleaning any item.

Using a Commercial Stain Remover

If stain is still there after you have tried the above steps, you can also use a commercial stain remover. Apply according to the product instructions and launder as usual. Repeat the process until the stain is gone.
