Materials Needed
- A cloth
- Hairspray
- Dish soap
- Laundry Detergent
- White Vinegar
Steps to Remove Shoe Polish Stains from Your Skirt
- Dab the affected area with a clean cloth to absorb as much of the shoe polish as possible.
- Spray hairspray directly onto the stain and immediately blot the spot with a clean and damp cloth. The hairspray will break down the shoe polish and help lift it from fabric.
- If the shoe polish stain persists, apply a few drops of dish soap into the affected area. Allow the soap to sit for a few minutes before scrubbing it off using a clean cloth and water.
- If the stain remains, mix a teaspoon of laundry detergent into a cup of warm water, then dab it onto the stain. Let it sit for several minutes before rinsing the area with cold water.
- For particularly stubborn stains, mix together equal parts white vinegar and water in a bowl. Apply mixture to stain and scrub it with a cloth until it lifts away.
- When the stain is gone, rinse the area with cold water and allow it to air dry. You may also use a hairdryer to accelerate the drying process.
Tips & Tricks
- Always be sure to test a small part of the fabric before using any cleaning solution to ensure it won't discolor your skirt.
- Use a clean cloth instead of a paper towel as it can be more abrasive and cause further damage to the fabric.
- If the stain persists, take skirt to a professional dry cleaner for additional assistance.
