Using a cloth or paper towel, begin by blotting the area and lifting as much of the shoe polish as possible. Don't rub too hard since this can damage the silk fabric.
Saturate a cloth or cotton swab with rubbing alcohol and gently dab the stained area. Do not rub the stain too hard as this may cause discoloration and weaken the natural fibers of the silk. After dabbing the area with rubbing alcohol, allow it to dry naturally.
Mix a solution of warm water and a gentle detergent. Gently dab the stained area with the solution and then rinse with cold water. You may need to repeat this step several times for stubborn stains.
Mix a solution of one part ammonia and four parts water. Again, dab the stained area with the solution and then rinse with cold water. Avoid using too much ammonia as it can damage the natural fibers of the silk.
Before cleaning the entire area, you should always spot test a small area first. Using a damp cloth and a gentle detergent, dab the hidden area to ensure that cleaner does not damage fabric.
