Scrub and Rinse

The first step in removing shoe polish from your scrubs is to scrub the stain. Use an old toothbrush to gently scrub the area, making sure to be gentle so as not to damage the fabric. After scrubbing, rinse area with warm water to wash away any residual shoe polish.

Apply Stain Remover

Next, apply a commercial spot remover or a paste made of baking soda and water directly onto the stain. Allow the product time to work its magic; typically 5-10 minutes is enough. You may need to scrub the area again to fully remove stain.

Wash in Hot Water

Once you have scrubbed the stain and applied the cleaner, wash the garment like normal in hot water using detergent and a mild bleach. The combination of hot water and mild bleach should break down the stubborn shoe polish stain and leave your scrubs looking fresh and clean!

Prevention

In addition to cleaning shoe polish, you should also take some preventative measures to avoid further staining. For one, keep shoe polish away from your scrubs and surfaces where you might wear them. Additionally, follow the garment care instructions for your scrubs—if you can’t machine wash them, have them professionally dry cleaned.
