Using Detergent and Water

To get started, mix a small amount of detergent into a bowl of warm water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and begin dabbing at the stained area. Work the cloth back and forth in circles until the polish lifts away from the material. When you’re done, rinse the cloth in warm water and wipe down the stained area one more time, then let it air dry.

Using Rubbing Alcohol

If a detergent and water solution isn’t quite strong enough for stain, try using rubbing alcohol. Take a cotton pad and pour some rubbing alcohol onto it. Gently dab affected area with the cotton pad, working the alcohol into the stain. Rinse cotton pad and repeat until the stain is gone. If there’s any moisture left behind after you’re finished, leave the area to air-dry.

Preventing Future Stains

To prevent shoe polish stains from occurring again, keep your satin fabric surfaces covered when polishing shoes. Place a piece of wax paper underneath shoe before you apply polish, and try to do any polishing in a designated area, like garage or utility room.
