What You'll Need:

  • Plastic container
  • Laundry detergent (or gentle soap like castile soap)
  • Cleaning cloth
  • Cold water
  • White vinegar
  • Soft bristled brush
  • Paper towels

Instructions

  1. Start by placing the stained area of the sari in a plastic container filled with cold water.
  2. Add one tablespoon of laundry detergent (or gentle soap like castile soap) to the water and stir.
  3. Soak the sari in the solution for about 15 minutes. This will loosen up the staining substances.
  4. Once the sari has soaked, use a soft bristled brush to gently scrub stain. Don't be too aggressive as this can damage the fabric.
  5. Rinse the sari in cold water.
  6. If the stain remains, repeat steps 3 and 4.
  7. If the stain still doesn't come out, mix 1 cup of cold water with 1 cup of white vinegar. Use a clean cloth to dab this mixture onto stained area.
  8. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes then rinse with cold water.
  9. Air dry the garment. Do not put it in the dryer.

Additional Tips

  • It's best to treat stains immediately, before they have a chance to set.
  • Always read garment care label on the sari before attempting any stain removal.
  • If stain persists, take garment to a professional dry cleaner for assistance.
