Before beginning any cleaning process, first blot up as much of the excess shoe polish and oil as possible. Use a dry, white cloth or paper towel and press gently against the stain until the cloth comes away clean of the shoe polish. Take care not to rub the cloth against the fabric, as this may only spread the stain further.
Mix a solution of liquid laundry detergent and cool water, and use this to pre-treat the stain. Allow the solution to soak into the fabric for about an hour, then take a clean cloth and gently blot at the area to remove the soap residue and any remaining shoe polish.
Place the robe in the washing machine and set the cycle to cold water and a gentle detergent. After the cycle is done, remove the robe and inspect stained area. If the stain is still visible, repeat the pre-treatment and washing steps until stain has been completely removed.
After stain has been removed, hang the robe to air dry. Do not put it in the dryer, as this will increase the chances of the stain setting in and becoming permanent.
