Rayon is a lightweight, comfortable, and breathable fabric that can make any outfit look stylish. However, it also has a tendency to easily absorb stains, including shoe polish. If you've got a nasty shoe stain in your rayon garment, don't panic! Here are some steps to help you get your garment looking good as new.
The first step in dealing with any kind of stain is to act fast—the quicker you start to address it, the more successful you'll be in removing it. Start by blotting the affected area with a paper towel or a soft cloth. This will help absorb any excess liquid, preventing the stain from spreading further.
Next, pre-treat stain with a detergent solution. Mix one teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent and two tablespoons of white vinegar with one quart of warm water. Mix them up until the detergent is completely dissolved, and then use a clean cloth or rag to apply the solution to the stained area. Work it into the fabric gently and let it sit for about 10 minutes.
Once you've given the detergent solution enough time to break down the stain, rinse affected area with cold water. Be careful to avoid scrubbing, rubbing, or any other harsh motions, as this could weaken and damage the fabric fibers. Pat dry the area with a paper towel, and then let it air dry completely.
Once the garment is dry, you may still notice some discoloration. For this, dip a clean cloth in rubbing alcohol and dab the area gently. This should lift any remaining residue and bring back the original color of the fabric. Once you're done, just hang it up to air dry, and you're all set.
