As soon as you notice a shoe polish stain, grab a clean cloth and blot the stained area. This will help lift away some of the excess shoe polish that may be on fabric, as well as prevent it from spreading. Be sure to use a clean cloth each time, and never scrub or wipe area, as this could cause the stain to spread further.
Apply some stain remover to the stained area and let it sit for five minutes. Be sure to follow the instructions provided on the label of the stain remover. Don't scrub or rub fabric, as this could damage the fabric.
Rinse the stained area with warm water to remove the stain remover. You may need to do this several times in order to ensure that all of stain remover has been removed from the fabric.
Apply some laundry detergent to the stained area and let it sit for five minutes. Then rinse the area again with warm water. If stain is still visible, repeat process until the stain is removed.
If the stain is still present after following above steps, then try treating it with olive oil or rubbing alcohol. Apply the olive oil or rubbing alcohol directly to the stain and let it sit for five minutes. Then rinse the area with warm water. If the stain is still visible, repeat the process until the stain is gone.
Once shoe polish stain is gone, wash the clothing item in washing machine. If stain was particularly stubborn, it may be a good idea to add an extra scoop of laundry detergent and a stain remover to the wash cycle.
