Raincoats are usually made of waterproof fabric, which makes them ideal for keeping you dry during wet weather. However, if you happen to get some shoe polish on your raincoat, removing the stain can be tricky. But don’t worry - it is possible to clean off the shoe polish and restore your raincoat to its former glory.

Removing Shoe Polish Stains From Raincoats

  1. Wet a cloth with warm water and blot stain lightly.
  2. Mix a solution of two parts liquid detergent and one part white vinegar. Soak a new cloth in the mixture and rub it against the stained area.
  3. Rinse area with cold water. This will help to remove any soap residue.
  4. If any traces of the stain remain, try dabbing rubbing alcohol onto the affected area and rinse again.
  5. Allow the fabric to air-dry.

Important Tips

  • Always test any cleaning solution on a small hidden area of the raincoat before applying it to stain.
  • Be sure to use cold water to rinse the fabric; hot water can cause the stain to set in further.
  • Do not put the raincoat in the washing machine or dryer before treating the stain – this can cause the stain to become permanent.
