Shoe polish can be a real nuisance to remove from clothes and other fabrics. The good news is that it doesn't have to be a daunting task. Here are some steps you can take to get stains out quickly and effectively.
Using a clean cloth, blot the area that has been stained with shoe polish to absorb as much of the excess liquid as possible. Do not rub contaminated area, or you may risk spreading the stain further.
To pre-treat the stain, mix a solution of one part liquid laundry detergent and four parts lukewarm water. Dip a white cloth into the mixture, then gently dab it onto the affected area. Leave the pre-treater on the stain for a few minutes before washing the purse.
Place the purse in a basin of cold water, and use your hands to work stain out. Make sure to use gentle motions since vigorous rubbing can make the mark worse. Change out the water in the basin until it runs clear. Once pre-wash is complete, allow the purse to air-dry before moving on to the next step.
Spray the affected area with a stain remover that is specifically formulated for removing shoe polish. Allow product to sit for several minutes before using a dampened cloth to wipe away any remaining residue. For stubborn stains, you may need to repeat this step a few times.
Once you've removed as much of the stain as you can, place the purse in a basin of cold water and add a mild laundry detergent. Allow the purse to soak for at least 15 minutes, then rinse off the soapy residue with cool water. Allow the purse to air dry before wearing it.
