Removing fresh shoe polish stains

  1. Start by gently scraping off as much of the shoe polish stain as possible with a plastic putty knife or spoon.
  2. To neutralize and remove the remaining residue, apply a small amount of a solvent-based cleaner, such as rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover, to an absorbent cloth.
  3. Dab the cloth into the stain. Do not rub or scrub it, as this will only cause further damage. Allow the solvent to sit on the fabric for about one minute before rinsing.
  4. Once you’ve removed as much of the stain as possible, soak the garment in lukewarm water for a few minutes.
  5. If the stain has been removed, launder the garment like usual, using a mild detergent.

Removing old shoe polish stains

  1. A few drops of dish washing liquid mixed with lukewarm water should be sufficient enough to remove an old shoe polish stain from your pajamas.
  2. As when dealing with a fresh stain, gently scrape fabric with a plastic putty knife or spoon.
  3. Next, pour the solution over stain and allow it to sit for several minutes.
  4. Rinse garment and launder like normal.

Preventing future shoe polish stains

  • Always store any cans of shoe polish in such a way that it will be secure and out of reach of children.
  • Ensure there is adequate ventilation in the room while polishing shoes.
  • Change your clothes after polishing your shoes to avoid dirtying other garments.
  • Keep fabrics that are easily stained away from shoe polish.
