What You’ll Need

  • Mild laundry detergent
  • Water
  • A clean white cloth or sponge
  • A clean, dry cloth
  • Vinegar (optional)
  • Bleach (optional)

Instructions

  1. Apply mild laundry detergent directly to the stained area and work it in gently with your fingers.
  2. Rinse the spot with warm water then blot it with a damp cloth.
  3. If stain persists, try soaking the area with a solution of equal parts vinegar and water. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse with warm water.
  4. If the stain remains, mix 2 teaspoons of bleach with 1 quart of warm water. Dip a clean white cloth in the solution and dab the stained area. Be sure not to rub, as this could damage the fabric.
  5. Rinse with warm water and let the garment air dry.
  6. Once the fabric is dry, check the stained area for any remaining traces of the shoe polish. If necessary, repeat Steps 1-3 until the stain is completely removed.
