First, grab a few supplies that will help you with the task at hand: paper towels, white vinegar, dish soap, and baking soda.

Start by blotting up the excess shoe polish with a paper towel. Then, make a paste from baking soda and vinegar and apply it to the stain.

Surround stain with plastic wrap and leave the paste in place for several minutes. After the paste has been allowed to sit, remove the plastic wrap and gently rub the paste away with a damp cloth.

If any of the shoe polish remains, mix a small amount of dish soap and water into a bowl and dip a cloth into the solution. Gently rub the stain with the cloth while adding the solution, repeating until the stain has been lifted.

Finally, rinse the macrame with warm water. This should remove any remaining residue from the cleaning agents used previously. Dry the piece off with a soft cloth, then hang it back up for display.

Cleaning shoe polish stains from macramé doesn’t have to be a daunting task. With a few simple supplies and following the steps outlined above, your macramé projects can look new and beautiful in no time!
