Step 1: Pre-Treat Stain

Start by pre-treating the stain with a laundry pre-treatment spray or powder. This should help to loosen stain and make it easier to remove. Be sure to follow the directions on product before applying.

Step 2: Soak the Fabric

Once pre-treatment is applied, you should soak the fabric in a solution made of 1/4 cup of white vinegar and two quarts of cold water. Leave the fabric in the solution for at least an hour, or longer if necessary. This will help to further loosen the stain and make it easier to remove.

Step 3: Wash Fabric

After soaking, wash the fabric using a mild detergent and cold water. Be sure to read the care label on clothing before washing, as some fabrics may not be suitable for the washing machine. If hand-washing is necessary, do not rub the fabric too harshly when scrubbing the stain.

Step 4: Repeat as Necessary

If the stain is still not completely gone, repeat steps 1 through 3 until it is removed. In some cases, it may take several washes to fully remove the stain.

Tips for Preventing Future Stains

  • Be sure to properly store your shoes when not in use, as this will help to prevent them from getting onto your clothing.
  • When spot-cleaning, be sure to check the stain first to make sure that the product you are using will not damage the fabric.
  • Always read the care labels on your clothing before washing, as some items may require special cleaning.
