What You'll Need

  • Dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Soft toothbrush

Step 1: Blot the Stain

Begin by blotting the stain with a clean, white cloth. Blot from the outside in, to prevent the stain from spreading.

Step 2: Rub in Soapy Water

Mix a small amount of dish soap with lukewarm water. Dip a cloth or soft-bristled brush into the solution, and gently rub the stain in a circular motion. The soap and water will help loosen the stain and allow it to be removed more easily.

Step 3: Rinse Away Soapy Water

Rinse away the soapy water with a damp cloth. Be sure to rinse until all traces of soap are gone.

Step 4: Spot Clean with Vinegar

Mix together one tablespoon of white vinegar and two cups of water. Dip a soft-bristled brush into the solution, and lightly scrub the stain. The acidity in the vinegar will help lift the stain.

Step 5: Rinse and Air Dry

Rinse away the vinegar solution and allow the joggers to air dry. Avoid placing in direct sunlight or using a hairdryer, as these could set the stain.

Can I use a different cleaning solution than vinegar? Yes, white vinegar is only one option. Other solutions such as lemon juice, club soda, rubbing alcohol, and baking soda can also be used to remove shoe polish stains from joggers.
