Things You’ll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Dishwashing liquid soap
  • Soft cloth or sponge
  • Container
  • Lukewarm water

Step 1: Dampen the Stain

Dampen the stained area of the hat with lukewarm water using a damp cloth or sponge. Doing this will allow you to reduce the amount of shoe polish that may sink into the hat's fabric, making it easier to remove.

Step 2: Apply Soap and Vinegar

Mix a solution of white vinegar and dishwashing liquid soap in a container. Measure one tablespoon of vinegar and two tablespoons of soap and mix them in a bowl of lukewarm water. Dip your cloth or sponge into this solution and apply it to the stained areas. Gently rub fabric in circular motions and let it sit for 15 minutes.

Step 3: Rinse the Hat

Rinse the hat with lukewarm water and let it air dry. If the stain is still present, repeat steps 1-3 until it is completely gone.

Tips

  • Always test out the solution on an inconspicuous part of the hat first.
  • Avoid using a washing machine to remove stains, as this can damage the fabric.
  • For best results, try to remove the stain as soon as possible.
