Step 1: Scrape off Excess Shoe Polish

Use a butter knife or spoon to gently scrape off as much of the shoe polish as you can. Be careful not to put too much pressure on hair tie as you scrape, since this could cause it to break.

Step 2: Soak Hair Ties in a Bowl of Hot Water

Fill a bowl with enough hot water to cover the stained areas of the hair tie. Allow the hair tie to soak for a few minutes, then use a soft brush to scrub away any remaining shoe polish.

Step 3: Rinse with Cold Water

Once you've removed as much of shoe polish as possible, rinse the hair tie in cold water. This will help prevent the dye from running.

Step 4: Wash with Laundry Detergent

Squeeze a small amount of laundry detergent onto the stained area of hair tie and massage it into the fabric. Allow the soap to sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off completely with cool water. You may need to repeat this step a few times to completely remove the stain.

Step 5: Let Dry

Once all of the shampoo is rinsed off, lay the hair tie flat on a towel or rack and allow it to air dry completely. Do not put it in the dryer as this could damage fabric.

Final Thoughts

With a little patience and the right cleaning supplies, you can easily get rid of shoe polish stains from hair ties. Follow steps above and you'll have your hair ties looking like new in no time.
