What You'll Need

  • Mild detergent
  • Ammonia
  • White vinegar
  • Soft cloth
  • Dry cleaning solvent
  • Cup of warm water

Steps to Clean Shoe Polish from Evening Gown

  1. Create a mixture of one teaspoon of mild detergent and one cup of warm water. Gently swish the fabric through this mixture and blot it with a soft cloth.
  2. Mix ¼ cup of ammonia into one cup of cool water and dab it onto the stain with a soft cloth.
  3. Rinse the fabric with cold water and let it dry for several minutes.
  4. Mix two tablespoons of white vinegar and one cup of warm water. Dab the fabric gently with this solution.
  5. Apply dry cleaning solvent to the area if the shoe polish remains. Be sure to follow the instructions on the label.
  6. Rinse the fabric again with cold water, and blot it post-rinse with a soft towel.
  7. Hang the garment up to air dry.
