Step 1: Pre-treat the stain with a stain remover

Before starting, pre-treat the stain with a stain remover to break down oils in the shoe polish. Apply a good amount of stain remover directly onto the stain and let it sit for at least 10 minutes.

Step 2: Use a damp cloth to remove excess stain remover.

Once the stain remover has had a chance to work, use a damp cloth to remove any excess stain remover. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing stain, as this could cause the stain to spread or become worse.

Step 3: Blot the stain with a dry cloth.

Using a clean, dry cloth, gently dab a solution of warm water and laundry detergent onto the stain. Work from outside of the stain inward, to avoid spreading it.

Step 4: Rinse the area with cold water.

Rinse area with cold water to remove any remaining soap residue. Be sure to rinse the area thoroughly, as this will help prevent the stain from setting in.

Step 5: Soak fabric in a solution of white vinegar and water.

In a basin of warm water, mix together white vinegar and water in equal parts. Soak the stained area for an hour, then rinse it with cold water.
