Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain

Using a small amount of laundry detergent, gently work the area of the stain with your fingers or a soft-bristled brush. This will help break up the stain and remove it more easily. If the stain is particularly stubborn, let the detergent sit on the stain for 10 minutes before proceeding to step two.

Step 2: Launder Shirt

Once you have pre-treated the stain, launder the shirt as usual. Choose a liquid detergent and warm water setting and add a ½ cup of baking soda to boost cleaning power of detergent. You may also want to line dry the shirt instead of machine drying it, since heat can set a stain.

Step 3: Inspect and Repeat if Necessary

Once the shirt has been laundered, take a look to see how much of stain was removed. If there is still some of the stain left, repeat steps 1 and 2 until it is completely gone. You may also want to try using a stain remover specifically designed for shoe polish, like Carbona Stain Devils #7.
