Choose an inconspicuous area of coat to test out your cleaning method. It’s important to make sure the cleaning product won’t damage the fabric or stain it any further. To do this, apply a small amount of the cleaning solution to a white cloth or small cotton ball and dab it onto the stain. If there’s no discoloration or damage, you’re good to go.
Once you’ve determined that the cleaning product is safe for coat, dip the cloth into the cleaning solution and start blotting at the stain. Remember not to scrub or rub the fabric as this will only make the stain worse. Once the stain is saturated focus on the edges and coagulate the stain inward.
Apply a small amount of laundry detergent directly to the stain and let it sit for five minutes. This will help break down the stain and loosen it from fibers of the coat. After five minutes, use a damp cloth to blot the area to remove the laundry detergent.
Rinse the affected area of the coat with cold water to remove any excess cleaning products or residue. To ensure that the water does not spread the stain, use a firm but gentle blotting action. Once area is rinsed, squeeze out any excess water and place coat flat to dry.
If stain remains, continue repeating Steps 2-4 until the stain is completely gone. Patience is key here, so take your time and keep at it until you get the results you want.
