Shoe polish stains can be an annoying and difficult thing to remove from clothing, especially when the stain has been sitting for a while. However, it is not impossible to get rid of these stains with a few simple steps.
When you notice a shoe polish stain on your chinos, first step is to remove any excess polish that hasn’t had time to dry. To do this, use a butter knife or a similar sharp object to scrape off as much of shoe polish as possible. You may need to repeat the process several times in order to fully remove the excess polish.
Once you have removed as much excess shoe polish as possible, grab some detergent and warm water. Put a dab of the detergent on a clean cloth and gently blot at the stain. Do not rub or scrub at the stain as this can cause the stain to spread. Continue to blot until the stain has been removed.
Once the stain has been removed with the detergent and water, you may need to rinse the area with cool water to make sure all of detergent residue is gone. Once area is rinsed, use a dry cloth to blot the area and allow it to air dry.
Before putting your chinos back in the wash, you will want to test a discrete area of the chinos to make sure the stain has been fully removed. To do this, dampen a clean cloth with some rubbing alcohol and lightly dab at an area that is not visible. If the stain has been successfully removed, then you can safely put the chinos in the machine wash.
That's it, four easy steps that will help you get rid of shoe polish stains from your chinos. Just remember to always take immediate action when dealing with shoe polish stains and never rub or scrub stain since this can cause the stain to spread.
