- First, scrape off any excess shoe polish with a butter knife or something similar. Do not rub or scrub, as this could damage the fabric of your cargo pants.
- For synthetic fabrics, use a small amount of rubbing alcohol on an absorbent cloth and dab at the stain.
- For natural fabrics, such as denim, use white vinegar instead of rubbing alcohol. Dab at the stain gently and it should come out quickly.
- Thoroughly rinse the affected area with cold water. Make sure all residue from the rubbing alcohol or vinegar is removed.
- Place the pants in the washing machine with the stain still visible. Add a cup of white vinegar to the load.
- Wash on a delicate cycle using cold water.
- Check the fabric before transferring to the dryer. If the stain is still visible, repeat the previous steps.
- Air-dry or tumble-dry on low heat.
Once you have followed these steps, you should have successfully removed the shoe polish stain from your cargo pants.
