Whether you're dealing with fresh stains or dried-on, stubborn marks, knowing how to remove shoe polish from clothes quickly and efficiently can help ensure that you always look polished and put together.
If you're lucky enough to notice the stain immediately, you can take care of it before it has a chance to set in. Start by carefully scraping off any excess polish that hasn't yet been absorbed into the fabric. Once you've done that, place the item of clothing on a towel with stained side facing down. Then dab the back of the stain with rubbing alcohol or white vinegar.
The next step is to use a damp cloth to gently blot stain, rotating the item of clothing every few seconds. Once you've done that, the final step is to rinse the area with cold water and let it air dry. If the stain has not completely lifted, then repeat the same steps.
If you didn't notice the stain right away, don't worry – there are still a few things you can do to minimize its effects. Start by pre-treating the stained area with a stain remover or stain treatment product.
Once that's been applied, let it sit for the time specified on the product's directions. Then, fill a sink or bucket with warm water and add a capful of laundry detergent. Place clothing in the water and let it soak for an hour. Gently agitate the fabric every 15 minutes.
After garment has finished soaking, rinse it with cold water and launder as you normally would. If the stain is still there, repeat the process until it has been removed.
