Step 1: Scrape Off Excess Shoe Polish

Using the dull side of a butter knife or a spoon, gently scrape off as much excess shoe polish as you can. Don’t be too aggressive as you don’t want to damage the fabric.

Step 2: Make a Cleaning Solution

Mix a cleaning solution by combining 1 teaspoon of white vinegar with 1 tablespoon of mild liquid detergent and 1 cup of warm water. You may need to adjust quantities depending on the size of the stain.

Step 3: Test Solution

Place a small amount of the cleaning solution on an inconspicuous part of the fabric such as a seam or an interior lining, then wait a couple of minutes to make sure it doesn’t discolor the material. If you don't see any discoloration, you can proceed.

Step 4: Apply the Solution

Saturate the stain with the cleaning solution using a clean, soft-bristled brush. Allow solution to sit for a couple of minutes, but do not let it dry out.

Step 5: Rinse and Dry

Rinse the area with cold water, and blot the fabric dry with a clean, absorbent cloth. Don’t rub the fabric as this can cause damage.
