What You’ll Need

  • Dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Small brush
  • Pencil eraser (optional)

Step-By-Step Instructions

1. Pre-Treat the Stain

Start by creating a mixture of equal parts dish soap and white vinegar. Apply the mixture to the shoe polish stain using either a brush or your fingers. Let it sit for 10 minutes as the mixture works to lift the shoe polish from the fabric.

2. Rinse with Water

Next, take the bodycon dress to the sink and rinse it with cool water. If the shoe polish stain is still visible, repeat the pre-treatment step.

3. Treat with Rubbing Alcohol

Pour some rubbing alcohol onto spot and dab with a cloth. The rubbing alcohol will help to break down the remaining shoe polish, making it easier to remove.

4. Use a Pencil Eraser (Optional)

If the stain still won’t come out, use a soft pencil eraser to gently rub the area. This should help to remove any last traces of the shoe polish.

5. Wash the Dress

Launder the dress according to the manufacturer’s instructions. To be safe, use cold water and a gentle detergent.

6. Air Dry

Once the dress is washed, carefully shape it and lay it flat to air dry. Avoid putting it in the dryer, as heat can cause stain to set and become permanent.
