What You’ll Need
- Cotton swabs
- Rubbing alcohol
- Liquid detergent
- Dry-cleaning solvent
- Old towels or rags
Step 1: Preparing the Stain
The first step is to prepare the stain. Doing this will make it easier to remove shoe polish from the fabric.
- If the blouse is dry-clean only, take it to a professional cleaner; no further steps are necessary.
- Gently scrape off as much of the excess shoe polish as possible with a plastic knife.
- Soak a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol, and use it to gently dab the stain until it loosens and disappears.
Step 2: Using Detergent
If rubbing alcohol doesn't work, you can try using liquid detergent. This should help remove the remaining shoe polish from the fabric.
- Soak a rag or an old towel in the detergent, and use it to dab the stain.
- Let the detergent sit on the stain for a few minutes.
- Rinse area thoroughly with warm water.
- Repeat the process if necessary.
Step 3: Using Dry-Cleaning Solvent
You might need to use a dry-cleaning solvent if the other methods are not successful.
- Soak a rag or an old towel in dry-cleaning solvent, and use it to dab the stain.
- Let solvent sit on the stain for a few minutes.
- Rinse area thoroughly with warm water.
- Repeat the process if necessary.
