Shoe polish stains on Ann Taylor can be quite difficult to remove since the clothing is made from delicate fabrics like silk and linen. The good news is that you can easily get rid of these polishes stains with a few simple supplies found around the house.
Start by blotting stain with a clean cloth. Try to get as much shoe polish off as you can without furthering the stain. Work your way out from center and be sure not to rub or scrub as this may cause the stain to spread.
Mix one teaspoon of a mild detergent or liquid dishwashing soap with one cup of warm water. You will need more solution if the stain is larger than one inch in diameter.
Using a sponge, dip it into the solution and gently dab at the stain. Again, try not to rub the fabric in order to avoid pushing the stain deeper into the fabric. Move in circles and work your way out from the center.
Rinse sponge in cold water and repeat the above steps until the stain is gone. Be sure to rinse the fabric after each application.
Once the stain is gone, air-dry fabric or use a cool setting on your dryer. It’s important to avoid using hot temperatures as this could set the stain.
If you find there are still some remaining stains, make a paste with one part vinegar to two parts baking soda. Apply the paste to the affected area and allow it to sit for an hour before rinsing clean.
