What You’ll Need

  • Paper towels
  • Dish soap
  • Cotton swab
  • Soft brush (like a toothbrush)

Step 1: Absorb the Oil

The first step to removing the oil from your wallet is to absorb as much of it as possible. To do this, take some paper towels or tissue and press it against any areas that have been stained. If stain is particularly large, you may need to use several pieces of paper towels or tissues.

Step 2: Create a Cleaning Solution

In a small bowl or cup, mix together a tablespoon of dish soap with an equal amount of water. Stir the solution together using a spoon or fork.

Step 3: Use a Cotton Swab

Dip a cotton swab into the cleaning solution and apply it directly to stained area of wallet. Gently massage the area with the cotton swab, working the solution into the wallet material. Allow the solution to sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off.

Step 4: Rinse the Wallet

Rinse the wallet off with cold water. Make sure to rinse all of the soap suds away from the wallet.

Step 5: Spot Clean Wallet

If there are still traces of the stain remaining, you can try spot cleaning it with a soft brush. Dip brush into the cleaning solution and gently scrub stained area. Be sure to use only light pressure, as too much pressure could damage the wallet.

Step 6: Dry the Wallet

Leave the wallet to air dry, or pat it down with a paper towel. After wallet is completely dry, it should be free of any scissors oil stains.
