Venetian lace is a beautiful fabric that requires special cleaning methods. It’s delicate and fragile, so any stains require a gentle and careful touch. One of the most common stains on Venetian lace is oil, usually from scissors that have been handled with oily hands or in an oily environment. Here’s a step-by-step guide for removing oils from Venetian lace.

Mix approximately one tablespoon of mild detergent (like a baby shampoo or mild laundry detergent) with a cup of warm water. Submerge the stained area of the lace and let it soak for five minutes.
Gently sponge the area with a soft sponge, while maintaining its wetness. Never rub or scrub the lace. This could fray the fabric and make the stain worse.
Rinse the lace in warm water, drying it with a clean, absorbent cloth. Don’t machine wash or dry the lace. Instead hang it to dry in sun or in a well-ventilated area.
If the stain persists, mix a quarter cup of white vinegar and a quart of warm water. Submerge the stained area of the lace and let it soak for 15 minutes. Thoroughly rinse the lace and then repeat Steps 2 and 3.
If the stain still remains, repeat Steps 1 and 2. If the stain persists, try using a mild detergent and laundering the lace by hand. Hang it to dry afterwards.
