If you’ve got an oil stain on your twill, don’t panic. With right materials and method, you can get rid of the stain quickly and easily. Here’s how to do it.

Materials You'll Need

  • Clean cloth
  • White vinegar
  • Borax
  • Small brush

Step 1: Blot the Stain

First, grab a clean, white cloth and begin blotting stained area. Don’t rub or scrub; that could spread the stain further or even cause damage to the fabric. Just press down firmly with the cloth, as many times as needed to soak up as much of the oil as possible.

Step 2: Spray White Vinegar

Next, spray the stained area with white vinegar. Let it sit for a few minutes and then blot the area with clean cloth. This will help to break down the oil molecules and make removal much easier.

Step 3: Apply Borax

After the vinegar has had time to work, use a small brush to apply Borax, which is an effective natural cleanser, to the stained area. Work the Borax into the stain using circular motions. Once done, let it sit for 10 minutes.

Step 4: Rinse and Repeat

When the 10 minutes are up, rinse the area with water, then repeat Steps 2 and 3 as needed. You may find that one application of Borax is enough to get rid of the stain, but if not, try again until the stain is completely gone.
