Sometimes when using scissors, tiny droplets of oil can end up on your clothes. When it’s a tunic, the stain can be particularly tricky as the fabric is usually more delicate and/or light colored. But don’t panic – there are several easy ways to clean these pesky oil stains from tunics.

Step 1: Cover the stain with cornstarch.

The first step is to dust the stain with cornstarch. This will absorb some of the oil and make the stain easier to remove. Allow the cornstarch to sit for at least 10 minutes, then brush away any excess.

Step 2: Apply a laundry detergent to the stain.

Once the cornstarch has been brushed away, it’s time to apply a laundry detergent. When choosing a detergent, make sure it is specifically made for delicate fabrics. Place a small amount of detergent on the stained area and work it into the fabric with a soft-bristled brush. Let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing it off with cool water.

Step 3: Try an enzyme-based cleaner.

If detergent alone does not remove the stain, you may need to try an enzyme-based cleaner. These special household cleaners work to “eat” away the oil. Follow the instructions on the cleaner, and apply directly to the stain. Let it sit for several minutes before washing the tunic as usual.

Step 4: Wash the tunic.

Once the stain is removed, be sure to wash the tunic in cold water using a mild detergent. Never put the garment in the dryer - air dry instead.
