The first step is to identify what type of oil stain it is. Is it from scissors, body oil, or something else? Different types of oils require different methods of removal.
Before you start cleaning the stain, pre-treat the area with a dedicated stain remover. This will help to break up the oil so that it is easier to remove later. You can use a commercial stain remover or make your own using a few simple ingredients. A common recipe includes one cup of warm water, a teaspoon of liquid detergent, and a few drops of white vinegar. Mix ingredients together and apply the mixture to stained area.
Once the stain has been pretreated, you can begin the process of washing the swim trunks. Place the trunks in a washing machine filled with hot water and a laundry detergent of your choice. Set the machine to the highest setting, and let it run for at least 15 minutes. This will help to remove the oil from the fabric and prevent it from settling into the fibers.
After the washing machine cycle is complete, remove the trunks from machine and take them outside to air dry. Be sure to stop the trunks from further soiling by hanging them out of direct sunlight. Once they’re dry, inspect the trunks to make sure that the stain has been removed.
