Step 1: Blot Out Any Excess Oil

First, when you notice the oil stain, use a paper towel or an old cloth to blot it up. Don’t rub or scrub the fabric – this will only make the stain worse. Just gently blot the oil until no more of it is coming off onto the paper towel.

Step 2: Soak in Hot Water and Detergent

Once you’ve blotted away any excess oil, fill a basin with hot water and a few squirts of liquid detergent. Submerge the stain in the soapy water and let it soak for 30 minutes or so. This will give the detergent time to break down the oils in the stain.

Step 3: Pre-treat With OxiClean

If the stain is still present after hot water and detergent soak, try pre-treating with an oxygen bleach cleaner like OxiClean. First, mix 1 part OxiClean with 4 parts water, then dip an old brush into mixture and gently scrub stain. Let the pre-treatment sit on the stain for a few minutes, then rinse with cool water.

Step 4: Wash in the Machine

Once you’ve pre-treated the stain with OxiClean, you can pop the sports bra in the washing machine. Be sure to follow the care label instructions, and choose a gentle cycle with warm or cool water. If the stain isn’t completely gone after the wash, you can repeat Steps 2-4 until it’s completely removed.

Step 5: Let Air Dry

Once you’ve washed and rinsed the sport bra, hang it up to air dry. Avoid using the dryer or direct heat, which can set the stain and make it much harder to remove.
